Clauss Knife and Shear Sharpener is rated 4.1 out of 5 by 7.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Clauss Knife and Shear Sharpener I received the Clauss Knife and Shear Sharpener to review. I have to say its wonderful. The bottom has a rubber bottom to hold in place while you sharpen your knives. I have a set of knives that were so very dull, once I sharpened one knive I went onto the entire set. Now I was just about ready to buy a new set of knives, not needing to now. This sharpener works like a dream come true. I recommend this sharpener to everyone. Easy to use as well.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Edge in a long time! Received this about 3 weeks ago, it stays securely in place allowing a straight pull on snags to dimple the edge. Used it to sharpen my knife set and they have not been this sharp since new.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very easy to use This is very easy to use, compact so it's easy to take with you and it really does a good job at sharpening knifes and also works on scissors.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good sharpener Really good sharpener. Sharpens knives well. The only issue I have is the suction cup on bottom doesn't hold at times. Otherwise, great item.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Knife and Shear Sharpener The best thing about this sharpener is that it is easy to use. The suction grip holds it to the surface you're working on. Also there's enough room behind the sharpener so that when you pull the blade it will come down on soft plastic. You will notice some tiny metal shavings so this does take a bit of steel off of the blade. I used the sharpener on stainless steel blades. I'm not sure how it would work on high carbon steel but wonder if it might take too much steel off. Because of that I will probably use it sparingly on those types of blades and finish with something else. The blades I did sharpen were not razor sharp but were sharper than when I started. I'm thinking it will take more work to get them where I'd like them to be. I think once one has a blade where they want it that a weekly sharpening would suffice. The big plus is easy use, the big minus is I didn't get my blade as sharp as I wanted. I think I will get there, just that it will take more time. My perfect sharp knife will slice a tomato, cutting it before denting it. I would not recommend this type of a sharpener for fine high carbon steel blades but would recommend it for stainless steel blades.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from OK, but not great The greatest strong point of the Clauss Knife and Shear Sharpener is that it will attach firmly to a kitchen counter or a smooth work table without damaging the surface or requiring clamping it in place. This is a great convenience, especially for larger items like shears.Otherwise, it is just another pair of carbide "sharpening" blades set at a fixed angle. I did not attempt to measure the angle because it really doesn't matter whether the angle of this sharpener matches the proper angle of the blade you are trying to sharpen or whether it matches your preferred angle.Like any carbide V-style sharpener, this tool is fine for sharpening a really bad blade or taking out nicks from the blade of a knife that has been abused. It does an adequate job on most household scissors or shears. With a gentle hand you can even use it to sharpen a kitchen carving knife. BUT this is NOT a tool for getting a fine edge on a good knife. For a really fine edge on a good knife, you need to be able to adjust the sharpening angle to match the design of the knife (or you will have to take off enough metal to create a new edge with a new angle). For a V-style sharpener you need both the carbide cutter blades to take off metal to set the basic profile of the blade AND carbide rods to finish the process. This sharpener has only the carbide cutters. For most casual users, this sharpener will be adequate to put a "cutting edge" on many household blades -- most users will use too much force which will result in a somewhat wavy edge on the blade, almost a microscopic set of serrations - this is great if you just need your everyday pocket knife to be able to cut rope or cord or want your kitchen shears to disjoint a chicken - which is all most users really need a countertop sharpener to do. It is certainly better than a coarse stone "sharpener," especially the electric ones.At around $20 in stores, this is a bit pricey for what it can do, but the convenience and safety of a sharpener that mounts firmly to a countertop then easily detaches to toss in a drawer might justify the cost for a lot of people who just want something to sharpen their kitchen knives and other household cutting tools.
